Materials & Sustainability
Razapew chooses kiln-dried hardwoods to reduce movement from heat, cold, and humidity—oak, walnut, maple, ash, and cherry are most common. Boards are selected for strength and calm grain, then placed so color and figure flow across the top.
Bases may be solid wood for warmth or powder-coated steel from small U.S. fabricators for a slim, modern look. Finishes are low-odor and indoor-safe: a plant-based oil for a matte, natural feel that can be refreshed, or a water-borne clear coat for extra daily protection while keeping the wood’s tone.
Every batch is logged from wood-in to finish-out so care, touch-up, and ordering a matching piece stay simple. Process – From Wood to Finished Piece
Acclimation. Lumber arrives, is tagged with source details, and rests to match the shop climate before cutting. This quiet pause helps the boards behave later.
Layout. Boards are laid out on a long bench, moved until color and grain feel calm, then marked. A quick photo records the layout so the same flow shows on the finished top.
Milling & Joinery. Parts are cut to size; domino/biscuit alignment and clamping cauls keep glue-ups flat. Threaded inserts are set for bases so hardware starts cleanly and can be re-tightened over time.
Dry Fit. A full test fit follows—top and base meet, steadiness is checked, and clearances for chairs and knees are confirmed. Small adjustments happen here.
